Candle Care

Why Looking After Your Candle Is Important

Taking care of your candle, means that not only will it last longer, but also perform to its highest ability. So follow our simple steps below to get the most from your candle.

The First Burn.

This is the most important burn for your candle. Your wick will have been cut to the correct size before being sent to you so don’t worry about this for now. On burning your candle for the first time, make sure that the wax melts right to the edges, this should take up to four hours.

Candle Memory.

It is important that the wax is allowed time to melt all the way to the edges. Candles have memory, so on any subsequent lights it will only melt as far as it did first time around. Don’t forget to allow it to melt ALL the way.

After Your First Burn

You will need to trim your wick before you light your candle again. You may find that there is a little bulb at the top of your wick. This is called a mushroom, but please don’t eat it. This is nothing to worry about, but will need to be removed before relighting. If you do not remove, the flame risks getting too hot, too big and may impact the performance of your candle.

When Your Candle Isn’t Being Used.

When candles are not in use, similar to melts, they can collect dust and other particles. If like us, you don't want to put your candle away, ensure that you remove carefully any dust or particles that gather on top of your candle before lighting again. If you do not remove them they could become entangled in your wick and effect the burn and performance of the candle.

Candles Don’t Like To Sunbathe!

As much as our candles like the heat, they don't like to sunbathe. Keep them out of direct sunlight and in a cool place. Placing in direct sunlight can affect the oil and wax resulting in a candle that won't smell as lovely.

The Final Burn.

When your candle is nearing the bottom of the container we suggest that you stop burning the candle when there is about 1/2 inch of wax left in the container. This is to ensure that the container doesn't become too hot and crack.

And... once your candle has finished burning why not recycle the container. We would love to see what you do with your empty candle jars. They could be used as drinking cups, vases or even basil planters! Let you imagination go wild! And don't forget to tag us on our social media.
